Tsering Hannaford

Australia

Tsering completed a BA in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma in Art History before taking up painting in 2012. She has studied drawing and painting at Adelaide Central School of Art and has supplemented this with mentoring from her father, artist Robert Hannaford.

At this early stage of her career she has already been selected as a finalist for the A.M.E. Bale art Prize in 2012 and the Archibald Prize Salon des Refuses in both 2012 and 2013. In 2013 she received the Helpmann Academy emerging artist award for her submission in the Royal South Australian Society of Arts Portrait Exhibition and was selected as a finalist in the Portia Geach Memorial Award.

“Whenever possible I endeavour to paint from life. I feel that painting in this way connects me to my subject, allowing me to capture subtleties unachievable when working from a photograph. My greatest ambition in my work is to allow the viewer to feel like they could be standing right there in the room with me- experiencing the same delicate light, the mood, the stillness. In this way I feel I can draw attention to the quiet beauty found in everyday life.”
